Blues

NHL

Jaden Schwartz started this season with a career-best offensive pace, with 35 points (14 goals and 21 assists) in 30 games. The leading catalyst for that hot start: That Schwartz was completely healthy for the first time in years. Because the Hockey Gods are cruel and can never let us have nice things, Schwartz was placed on injured reserve on Sunday with a right ankle injury, which he suffered in blocking a shot from Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green on Saturday. Blues GM Doug Armstrong said Schwartz is scheduled to be re-evaluated in six weeks. In recent games, his dominating line with Vladimir Tarasenko (13-18-31) and Brayden Schenn (15-21-36) had been broken up, with Schenn and Schwartz playing with Alex Steen (3-12-15, in 24 games) and Tarasenko playing with center Paul Stastny (6-15-21). The Blues have won three in a row and are in first place in the Central Division at 20-8-2. But losing key players in times of prosperity is, as any Blues fan will tell you, an unofficial franchise tradition. And Schwartz's impacts him, Schenn and that dressing room, where he's a well-liked leader.
