The 49ers were clearly overmatched in Sunday's 39-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams but they didn't do themselves any favors by continuing to turn the ball over and not coming up with any takeaways of their own. The Niners are minus-14 in turnover margin over the past four weeks and were minus-4 on Sunday against the Rams. When you're already facing a talent deficit, that's simply too much to overcome. Now, the Niners head to Arizona at 1-6 with positioning in the 2019 NFL draft the only thing of real interest to watch.

49ers free safety Adrian Colbert appeared to suffer a serious right leg injury in the third quarter as he landed awkwardly after he went up to attempt to intercept a deep pass from Jared Goff. Colbert was taken by cart to the locker room. D.J. Reed Jr. stepped in at his position.

The 49ers' penchant for costly giveaway again came back to bite them in the opening half against the Rams as they were minus-3 in turnover margin and trail 22-7. But the Niners did manage a touchdown drive before the half and will get the ball back to open the third quarter. To have a chance at a comeback, they have to find a way to come up with some takeaways of their own. There have been 18 teams that have been minus-3 or worse in turnover margin this season. Of those 18, only one has won that game. Niners have to find a way to shave that differential back toward their favor.

The 49ers are 5-0 ATS and 4-1 SU in the past five meetings against the Rams. Los Angeles is currently a nine-point favorite in San Francisco.

49ers inactives: WR Dante Pettis (knee), DB Jimmie Ward (hamstring), CB Richard Sherman (calf), G Joshua Garnett, DL Jullian Taylor, OL Shon Coleman, DT D.J. Jones.

In a surprise: 49ers CB Richard Sherman is inactive. Had been on injury report with a calf ailment. He was questionable coming into today. Jimmie Ward (hamstring) is also inactive. Given that, the 49ers will be without their two most recent starting cornerbacks. Ahkello Witherspoon and K'Waun Williams were also both on injury report this week but are active. So is Tyvis Powell, who was brought up from practice squad, Greg Mabin and rookie Tarvarius Moore. Expect Mabin and Witherspoon to handle first duties on the outside but will be all hands on deck today for the Niners.

49ers QB Joe Montana got up close with his new statue outside of Levi's Stadium on Sunday morning. The statue depicts Montana making the throw that would become "The Catch."

The 49ers unveiled their statues commemorating "The Catch" outside Levi's Stadium on Sunday morning. There are two statues, one of Joe Montana throwing the pass and another of Dwight Clark making the catch separated by the exact distance of the throw and catch.

With injuries aplenty at cornerback, the 49ers brought DB Tyvis Powell back to the active roster on Saturday, releasing Tom Savage to make room for him. Jimmie Ward is doubtful and Richard Sherman, Ahkello Witherspoon and K'Waun Williams are questionable.

Now a little further removed from ACL surgery, 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo has been back in the building since Tuesday and taking part in team meetings. Kyle Shanahan said it's good to have Garoppolo back and that Garoppolo will be around more as he gets closer to start of rehab.

Rams coach Sean McVay said he and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan can't talk football as much as they used to because they are now NFC West division rivals: "I think more than anything, there's a respect that I have for Kyle as a coach," McVay said. "Any time that we cross paths at the combine or whatever it might be, we always enjoy talking ball and it doesn't have to be anything where you're giving your secrets away. But so much of what I've learned, it's really, we're operating in a very similar manner. We certainly still talk. I know that I feel like I wish he wasn't in our division and we didn't have to play twice a year so that we could be a little bit more open with our dialogue and I feel the same way with a lot of those coaches I have close relationships with on your guys' staff. But, we're fortunate to even be in these roles. So we'll take it, but I would prefer not to have Kyle Shanahan in our division, if you ask me."

Who Do You Credit/Blame?

Tony Reali and the national panel debate if they credit Aaron Rodgers, blame the 49ers or the referees for MNF's results, if Hernandez's statements about the Dodgers fans are fair, if they are okay with Bregman's IG post on Eovaldi and much more.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said players who will be day to day this week with injury issues are CBs K'Waun Williams (shoulder), Ahkello Witherspoon (concussion) and Jimmie Ward (hamstring).

The 49ers have signed QB Tom Savage to provide some depth at the position. Savage was one of multiple quarterbacks the team worked out a few weeks ago after Jimmy Garoppolo's injury. Niners coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the signing and said Savage will be No. 3 on the depth chart behind C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens. To make room for Savage, the Niners cut tight end Cole Wick.

The 49ers suffered the most frustrating and maddening of their five defeats this season Monday night against the Green Bay Packers. The 33-30 loss came as the Niners blew multiple opportunities to put the game on ice before Aaron Rodgers did what he always does and pulled out a win late. "It's probably one of the hardest losses that I've honestly had personally," free safety Adrian Colbert said. "This is a historic field and that guy is a great quarterback and to come in and beat him at home, that's something that we wanted, something we were working for all throughout the week. We are in a slump right now and we've got to find a way (to win)." Instead, things will only get more difficult as the Niners are 1-5 with a short week to prepare for the high-flying Los Angeles Rams.
