Eagles release DE Curry, save $5M on cap

DE Vinny Curry, who had 41 quarterback hurries and three sacks in 2017, is a free agent after being released by the Eagles in a cost-cutting move Friday.

Eagles have released DE Vinny Curry, a source confirms, in a move that will offer $5 million in cap savings. They attempted to restructure his contract, which was set to pay him $11 million in '18, but couldn't get there. Addition of Michael Bennett made it less urgent to keep him. Curry should have a good market. Mike Garafolo was first with the report.

New Eagles DT Haloti Ngata won a Super Bowl with the Ravens during the 2012 season, and has been eager to get that feeling again. "The Super Bowl champs wanted me. To have another chance to go back and win again, it's exciting."

DT Haloti Ngata is signing his one-year deal with the Eagles, according to his agent Mike McCartney.

The Eagles created $5.4 million in cap space by converting most of TE Zach Ertz's base salary into a fully guaranteed roster bonus, per ESPN's Field Yates. This is their second significant restructure in recent days, as they created an additional $7.5 million by reworking RT Lane Johnson's deal.

I'm told that Patrick Robinson's new deal with the Saints will be for four years, $20 million with $10 million guaranteed, $8 million in the first year with $2 million due on the third day of the league year in 2019 (for injury). The Eagles actually offered more money overall but the Saints offered more guaranteed.

Corey Nelson's one-year deal with the Eagles is worth $2.25 million, per source.

The Eagles are re-signing free agent linebacker Nigel Bradham to a 5-year, $40 million deal, a source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter. He emerged as a key player on Jim Schwartz's defense, especially after Jordan Hicks was lost for the year with an Achilles injury. There was some question as to whether the Eagles could afford him, but they found a way to make it work.

Celek feels the 'Brotherly Love' after release (0:19)

The Bears additions in free agency are all about the development of QB Mitchell Trubisky. More offensive weapons/matchup players with WR Allen Robinson and TE Trey Burton. Look for Burton to be the "move" TE in Matt Nagy's offense. He can flex from the formation as a slot target and also impact the red zone.

Eagles release TE Celek, longest-tenured player

The Eagles on Tuesday released veteran tight end Brent Celek, who was the longest-tenured active pro athlete in Philadelphia. "Brent Celek defines what it means to be a Philadelphia Eagle," the team said in a statement.

Tim McManus ESPN Staff Writer

The Eagles have released TE Brent Celek in a move that will save the team $4 million in cap space. He was the longest-tenured member of the team and the type of player representative of the Eagles' desired identity: tough, selfless, blue-collar.

The Eagles have created $7.5M in cap space by restructuring the contract of offensive tackle Lane Johnson, a league source tells ESPN's Field Yates. Johnson's new cap number for 2018 is $4.98M, down from $12.48M, as his base salary was reduced from $10.25M to $790,000, with a signing bonus of $4,192,206, per Yates. Johnson still collects the same amount of money, and the Eagles take a big step towards being cap compliant before the start of the league year Wednesday.
