Under-the-radar names to know from OTAs: Peyton Thompson

Thompson has been getting a lot of reps at FS due to the injury to Tashaun Gipson, and the Jaguars are starting to believe he'd be a capable replacement if Gipson were to be injured during the regular season.

Jaguars DC Todd Wash says team will use CBs Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye to match up on opponents' receivers based on the receiver's body type and style. Jaguars also will use Ramsey and Bouye at safety at times, too.

Jaguars OC Nathaniel Hackett says he has to do everything he can to make sure QB Blake Bortles gains as much confidence as possible heading into camp. Has given Bortles a to-do list for the next month while he's in California working with his throwing coaches.

Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette says he's eager to get into full pads in training camp. Says it's in the back of his mind that he'll have to block 6-8, 300-pound DE Calais Campbell. "It'll be fun."

The Jaguars announce they have hired former Giants OL Chris Snee as a college scout. Snee -- who is married to one of Tom Coughlin's daughters -- also will assist with the OL during training camp.

Jaguars QB Blake Bortles says the team is "sick and tired of being below average and not being successful when we feel we have the ability to be a good team and we haven't been. ... You've got to do something about it."

Jaguars QB Blake Bortles says he will be heading to California between minicamp and training camp to continue to work on his mechanics.

The biggest takeaway from the first day of Jaguars minicamp is that OT Branden Albert was there -- and that he said he will not hold out for training camp. That's good news because Albert is the team's best option at left tackle. Offensive line is the team's biggest question mark (after QB Blake Bortles) and Albert is a two-time Pro Bowler.

Teams watching Cousins' situation: Jaguars

Depending on how Kirk Cousins' contract situation plays out, Jacksonville is one of several teams that could be interested in the future, considering Blake Bortles' inconsistency.

Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook did not participate in the first day of minicamp after missing all 10 OTAs with an injury. Missing that much time may make it hard for him to make much if an impact as a rookie, and coach Doug Marrone hinted about that when he said that coachability and availability are two things that are important to him.

Jaguars OT Branden Albert in seeing executive VP of football ops Tom Coughlin in Monday: "He said something about my weight. But it was more like joking around, but I believe he's happy I'm here working with the guys."
