Bengals sign ex-Bills LB Preston Brown

Linebacker Preston Brown, who tied for the NFL lead in tackles last season, signed with the Bengals on Friday.

The Bengals are signing linebacker Preston Brown to a one-year deal, source confirms. Brown played the past four seasons for the Bills, playing in every game. NewYorkUpstate.com first reported the signing.

Bills sign QB McCarron to two-year contract

The Bills have signed AJ McCarron to a two-year deal, the team announced Wednesday. After several veteran quarterbacks found new teams this week, Buffalo was perhaps the only remaining spot where the former Bengals QB could start.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, OT Andre Smith will sign with the Cardinals on a a two-year, $8 million deal. The Bengals brought Smith back last year after he spent a season with the Vikings, but after trading for Cordy Glenn, re-signing him was probably not as big of a priority.

The Bengals agreed to terms with punter Kevin Huber, according to a source. He will return for a ninth season in Cincinnati. Bengals didn't have anyone behind him, so they would've had to find a new punter if he had left. So he and Clark Harris will be back next year.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said in a news release that the trade for Cordy Glenn was part of the offseason focus on the offensive line. “We are excited to acquire a player who has been an accomplished starting tackle in the league," Lewis said. "Cordy is young and proven, and he's excited about being here.”

Bengals defensive lineman Chris Smith will sign with the Browns in free agency, according to a source. Smith drew interest on the market after showing potential last season as a piece of the Bengals DL rotation. His versatility was likely one of the reasons the Bengals traded with the Jaguars to get him last offseason. Former Bengals DC Paul Guenther said at the time that he was really impressed with him after watching him on film.

Only $300,000 of Bengals DT Chris Baker's 1-year, $3 million contract is actually guaranteed. He gets $1.5 million in base salary with a $300,000 signing bonus, a $500,000 roster bonus and a $50,000 workout bonus. $200,000 of the roster bonus is given to him if he is on the 53-man roster in Week 1, while he has additional roster bonuses of up to $300,000 if he is on the active 46-man roster ($18,750/game). He also has up to $600,000 in not likely to be earned playtime incentives available. His cap number is $2.4 million.
