One pro scout on new Falcons addition, OG Brandon Fusco: "Big, smart – position versatility to play different spots.''

Vaughn McClure ESPN Staff Writer

Falcons signing guard Brandon Fusco (6-4, 306) to a three-year contract, Adam Schefter reports. He last was with San Francisco. Fusco, who turns 30 in July, has 80 career starts and started 16 games at right guard for the 49ers last season. The former sixth-round pick of the Vikings is known more as a run blocker than pass protector. Should step right into a starting role ahead of Wes Schweitzer, who was a first-time starter last season but struggled with big, quick tackles. Falcons needed to upgrade the interior of the offensive line next to Pro Bowl center Alex Mack; needed a player capable of creating holes in short-yardage situations. Pro Football Focus tabbed the Falcons as the ideal fit for Fusco. Familiar zone blocking scheme, too, after playing under former Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco.

DE Adrian Clayborn generating interest as one of the best pass rushers available. Patriots, Colts, Bucs, Browns -- and Falcons -- appear to be all in the mix, according to source. Clayborn led the Falcons with 9.5 sacks last season.

Falcons' cap space now listed at $8,497,362 by NFLPA after accounting for the $1.5 million in space created with Brooks Reed's 2018 base salary going from $4.5 million to $3 million. We'll see who the team tries to squeeze into the budget or if more room is created with a Matt Ryan extension.

Former Falcons WR Gabriel to sign with Bears

Former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Taylor Gabriel told ESPN's Andrew Hawkins that he expects to sign a four-year deal with the Chicago Bears. Gabriel has averaged more than 16 yards per reception in two of his four NFL seasons.

Falcons one of the teams that have already expressed a ``strong'' interest in veteran tight end Ed Dickson, source tells me. Dickson (6-4, 255) averaged a career-best 14.6 yards per catch last season for Carolina and started 12 games with Greg Olsen battling injury. Dickson also a solid blocker, which the Falcons need probably more considering short-yardage woes and the release of Levine Toilolo. Current depth chart includes Austin Hooper and Eric Saubert, more pass-catching tight ends.

Falcons officially announce second-round tenders ($2.914 million) for free safety Ricardo Allen and offensive lineman Ben Garland, both restricted free agents. Allen started 15 games last season and was the team's best tackler along with being a designated team leader. Garland started three games at left guard in place of injured Andy Levitre and also played special teams. The move most likely assures both will be back with the Falcons, with interested teams unlikely to surrender a second-round pick. Allen likely to get a longer-term deal before the season begins. If both players play under the one-year tender in 2018, they'd each carry the $2.914 million cap hit. Allen made $615,000 last season, Garland $690,000.
