Jacksonville had the right idea on third down. Underneath crosser that forces Patriots CB Malcom Butler to work through a little traffic on the release. WR Marqise Lee had separation. Just need a better throw from QB Blake Bortles to move the sticks.

James Harrison snap tracker: He played 5 of 8 snaps on opening drive. Patriots using him, once again, as edge setter in base defense. He has played important role in helping team's run defense since his arrival Dec. 26. When he is isolated in coverage, that can create some issues for the defense.

Press-box announcement : Stephen Gostkowski 32 career postseason FGs, ties him with Gary Anderson for 3rd most all-time. Gostkowski has also scored 1 point in 24 straight postseason games, tying him with David Akers for 2nd most all-time (Adam Vinatieri first, 30).

The Jags used the FS almost as a "rover" on that 3rd down stop in the red zone. That allowed Jacksonville to match Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski up the field with the FS in a position to take away any inside break.

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

Our win probability model agreed with Bill Belichick's decision to go for it on fourth-and-1 on the opening drive. Attempting a field goal would have lowered the Patriots' chance to win by 1.1%. Breakeven percentage to justify going for it was 55.4% and league average in that situation is 65.3%. It's probably safe to assume the Patriots are better than league average.

It'll be interesting to see how much Tom Brady uses the shotgun formation. During the regular season, he threw 73 percent of his pass attempts out of the gun. On the Patriots' opening drive, all six of his passes came in the gun, perhaps to protect his injured right thumb.

Mike Reiss ESPN Staff Writer

TE Rob Gronkowski used the nickname Danny "Playoff" Amendola to describe the veteran receiver after his standout performance last week against the Titans, and Amendola delivered again early in the AFC Championship Game by making a 20-yard catch on fourth-and-1 to set up the team's opening field goal.

Jaguars defense stiffens in the red zone, hold Patriots to minus-2, 0, minus-1 yard on three snaps. Last was a sack by Dante Fowler.

CB Aaron Colvin got caught up in a pick on that fourth-down throw, which is why Telvin Smith was in pursuit.

This is TJ from Reading, PA. He bought his bulldog mask off Amazon for about 30 bucks. Says it smells like mothballs. "I put it on, and once I get used to the burning in my throat, I just want to start barking."

Tom Brady to Westwood One Sports: "It was just a very fluke injury. It was something that's happened a lot of times over the course of my career and there was a collision in practice and, you know, my hand suffered a bit of an injury, but hopefully I can go out there and still be really effective and we'll see what I can do today."

Tom Brady caps off his warmup with his standard long pass up the left sideline to Brandin Cooks. Overall, it looked like a regular warmup for Brady.

Jaguars fans are screaming "Duval!" as they pass each other at Gillette Stadium. Duval County is surprisingly well represented today.
