Following up on Bears OLB coach Clint Hurtt and the Jets: There is no indication that Hurtt will be joining Todd Bowles' staff, a league source confirmed. It was reported elsewhere Jan. 7 that Hurtt was taking a job with the Jets. The team looked into hiring him, but there was never an agreement. The position remains vacant. Hurtt reportedly declined an extension with the Bears.

Seahawks associate head coach/offensive line coach Tom Cable is staying in Seattle, according to his agent Doug Hendrickson. Cable interviewed for the 49ers head coaching job on Sunday. Pete Carroll said Monday he is not expecting to make any changes to his staff.

Jets RG Brian Winters, who signed a four-year, $29 million extension yesterday, said his surgically repaired rotator cuff will need about five to 5 1/2 months of rehab. He had surgery Dec. 23, so the timetable brings him to early June, when the off-season program is winding down. Asked why he signed early instead of testing free agency, Winters said, "I really like what the Jets have going here and wanted to be part of that and continue it. They're the team that gave me my shot."
