Matt LaFleur's brother, Mike, worked with him in Atlanta and now coaches 49ers wide receivers on Kyle Shanahan's staff. "No awkwardness," LaFleur said of facing him. "It will be interesting." LaFleur knows a lot of the coaches on that staff. "I'm sure there will be some mixed feelings," he said.

Rams offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, on getting top receivers Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins more involved (a combined 16 targets so far): "You saw what happened in Week 1 when we were able to distribute the ball. When you don't do that, you're going to be hindered a little bit offensively. That's always the goal is to spread it out."

Wade Phillips felt Aaron Donald "showed flashes, but he was rusty" in his first game back. "The more he plays, the better he's going to get." The Rams were initially going to play Donald 25-30 snaps, but gave him 48 because his body was holding up well. "We're looking forward to him playing this week, and maybe get a few more plays," Phillips said.

Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, as he walked to the podium: "All right, what's wrong with the run defense?" Phillips says the 49ers "got to be licking their chops" after Carlos Hyde rushed for 124 yards on 15 carries against the Seahawks, but Phillips expects his group to be better. He felt Washington ran a lot of plays that have worked against his defense in the past. "It's a copy-cat league," Phillips said. "They tried to copy all the plays that had any success against Denver or Philadelphia or New Orleans or Houston -- where else have I been?"

As expected, the Browns placed WR Corey Coleman on injured reserve (hand). The team signed DL Tyrone Holmes and WR Jordan Leslie to the practice squad and released DB Najee Murray and DB Channing Stribling from the practice squad. Coleman likely will be one of the two players the team can designate to return.
