49ers S Eric Reid said he met up with QB Colin Kaepernick on Monday night in New York. Reid said he and Kaepernick discussed some issues for Reid to take into the meeting with owners on Tuesday and that Kaepernick did not attend those meetings because he was not invited by the NFL. As for Kaepernick's pending collusion suit and what it could mean for his future in the league, Reid said Kaepernick is in "good spirits." Reid added that Kaepernick has been working out and looks good.

Seahawks DL Michael Bennett said the discussions between NFL players and the league need to start with Colin Kaepernick getting an opportunity to play. Bennett said that was brought up in the meetings on Tuesday.

Seahawks DL Michael Bennett says he plans to sit for the national anthem going forward. Bennett began sitting during the anthem at the start of the preseason and did so through the first two-regular-season games. The Seahawks remained in the locker room during the anthem in Week. Bennett and the rest of Seattle's defensive line sat in Week 4 and all players stood in Week 5. Frank Clark said after that game that the defensive linemen who sat during the anthem the week prior decided to stand to honor the victims of the Las Vegas shootings

The Redskins signed nose tackle A.J. Francis to the practice squad, the team announced. They have five defensive linemen on the active roster with Jonathan Allen (Lisfranc) out for the season.

Ezekiel Elliott is not ready to end his fight with the NFL because his name is more important to him than a six-game suspension. Elliott won a restraining order Tuesday that prevents the league from implementing its suspension and allows him to play Sunday at San Francisco. “When you get accused of something of that magnitude, you kind of get labeled as an abuser and that's not me,” Elliott said. “That's not how I want to be seen. That's not what I want to represent to my family. So I mean it's just important for me to fight.”

Bears coach John Fox was the head coach at Carolina after the 2009 season when defensive end Julius Peppers left for Chicago in free agency. Asked what he remembered from negotiations at the time to keep the team's all-time sack leader, who returned to the Panthers this offseason, Fox said: “Anytime you have the second player in the draft and he walks for nothing, I don't think that's ideal. . . . I don't write those checks. I just know I liked the player. He's proved pretty worthy since.''

Asked how rookie C.J. Beathard's performance over the final 10 games will influence the 49ers' plans for the future at quarterback, coach Kyle Shanahan said "a ton." Shanahan said Beathard has to show he has the ability to lead the Niners where they want to go (i.e. the Super Bowl) in order to nail down the job beyond this year.

For the Broncos linebacker Shane Ray (wrist) is also back to practice for the first time since the first week of training camp. He is slated to play Oct. 30 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Among those sitting out today are wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who had his lower leg X-rayed during Sunday night's game, tackle Menelik Watson (calf) and tight end A.J. Derby. Linebacker Brandon Marshall, cornerback Aqib Talib, running back Jamaal Charles and nose tackle Domata Peko were also not participating. Talib, Charles and Peko have been getting Wednesdays off.

So I look forward to this week having a big game. It's about time. ... It's something that I really put my mind set on. Just getting going, getting back to playing my ball. Finding the end zone and finding first downs, big runs, making guys miss. Highlight plays. All that is good for me, but it's good for the team. It keeps the offense on the field, we score, make big plays. Just gotta get going, man." McCoy said he looked at tape during the bye week and wanted to get back to basics. "Doing the beginning things, the fundamentals," he said. "And just being patient."
