Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said he's impressed how his Chiefs counterpart, Alex Smith, has diffused what could have been an awkward situation. The Chiefs drafted QB Patrick Mahomes II in the first round. “Obviously it's from afar but it seems like Alex has handled it absolutely as good as it can be handled, not only the way he's handled it from a media standpoint but just the way he's handled it with his play . . . I don't think there's any question who the quarterback of that team is,'' Rivers said. The Chiefs and Chargers meet on Sunday in Los Angeles.

The Saints re-signed veteran defensive end Darryl Tapp to fill the vacated roster spot after trading linebacker Stephone Anthony to Miami. Tapp, 33, played all 16 games for the Saints with two starts and a half-sack after joining them last year. He has the versatility to play both end positions and move inside to tackle on passing downs.

Bills QB Tyrod Taylor mentioned Kaelin Clay and Brandon Tate as two potential deep-passing options Wednesday, saying, "We''re going to have to pick and choose when we take our shots down field and be able to just have that threat of going down field. We have the players on this team, Kaelin [Clay] and Brandon Tate, some of the more quicker guys that can run down the field, as well as Zay [Jones], Andre [Holmes], those guys can stretch the field." Clay was inactive Week 1 and played five offensive snaps Week 2. Tate played two offensive snaps Week 1 and was inactive Week 2.

Ravens running back Terrance West is listed with a calf injury on the injury report. West didn't practice Wednesday. The other four players who didn't practice: DT Brandon Williams (foot), TE Maxx Williams (ankle), WR Michael Campanaro (ankle) and CB Jaylen Hill (hamstring). DB Anthony Levine (chest) was limited in practice, and OLB Za'Darius Smith (knee, ankle) was a full participant after missing Sunday's game.

Dolphins LB Rey Maualuga said he's no longer feeling pain in his hamstring. He feels he's closer to playing but it's up to the coaching staff.

Ravens wide receiver Mike Wallace, who has two catches for 15 yards this season, repeatedly said he "needs the rock" but emphasized that he's a team player. Asked if there is a level of frustration, Wallace said: "Of course. I play wide receiver. I don't play to block. But at the same time, when you're winning, it makes it all good. It's always masked when you're winning. As long as we're winning, we're good. I'm going to find ways to make plays. I will make plays."
