Redskins running back Rob Kelley (ribs) is in pads during stretching exercises but tight end Jordan Reed (chest/sternum) is not on the field. Jay Gruden said Monday both were day to day.
Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is not practicing today. He was limping when I saw him leave the locker room Sunday and he had his right ankle taped. The same for Monday. On a separate note, linebacker Devante Bond has returned to practice since suffering a sprained PCL in his knee last month.
Bucs running back Jacquizz Rodgers is practicing today despite his wife tweeting out that he had the flu against the Bears. The tweet has since been deleted. Interestingly, he told me just a little while ago that he has a cough and that it's not the flu. He looked fine out there today in drills and you can see he's in good spirits.
Fun nugget from Pete Carroll on Jurrell Casey, who he coached at USC, said his nickname is Tut Tut and remembered him playing ILB and OG.
Texans CB Johnathan Joseph practiced Wednesday after he left Thursday's game with a shoulder injury. He's hopeful he'll play Sunday vs. the Patriots. The Texans also got RB Alfred Blue (high ankle sprain) back. He's been out since the team's joint practice with the Saints.
Both TE Jermaine Gresham and ILB Deone Bucannon were in pads. Neither played Sunday in Indy.
Neither LT D.J. Humphries nor WR John Brown were on the field during the open porton of Cardinals' practice. LG Mike Iupati was back in pads.
Bucs middle linebacker Kwon Alexander is not practicing today. He suffered a hamstring injury Sunday against the Chicago Bears and had to leave the game. Mike Smith was very pleased with rookie Kendell Beckwith stepping in for him and said he was even making the calls on defense towards the end of the game.
Sam Bradford said he was trying to figure out if he could move, protect himself the way he needs to in a game during his pregame workout before Vikings played the Steelers. Was hopeful he was going to be able to do that after resting knee on Saturday. Said knee didn't feel right on Sunday.
Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey ranks third among NFL rookies in overall rookie jersey sales at Dick's Sporting Goods this week and has the 13th-best selling jersey among all NFL players. Only Pittsburgh rookies T.J. Watt and James Conner rank ahead of McCaffrey. Carolina middle linebacker Luke Kuechly ranks No. 9 among all NFL players. Quarterback Cam Newton ranked 16th.
Notable players practicing around the NFL: Gronk, Danny Amendola. Notable absences so far: Tyler Eifert, Terrance West, Jarvis Landry.
New Jets CEO Christopher Johnson spoke to the media for the first time since taking over the team from his older brother, Woody, the new U.S. ambassador to the U.K. Biggest takeaways: Johnson said he doesn't consult with Woody on any football matters. He said he will decide the fates of coach Todd Bowles and GM Mike Maccagnan. He said, "We definitely are not tanking." Johnson is excited about the future, yet realistic about the present. He struck the right balance. It was an impressive media debut.
Bradford says he's not sure he's ever dealt with this particular injury to his left knee, even after twice-tearing his ACL in the same knee and going through surgery/rehab process in 2013 and 2014. So it sounds like this is a new type of injury to the affected knee.
Ravens running back Terrance West was one of five players not practicing Wednesday. He was limited to two carries in the second half Sunday with an undisclosed injury. The others not practicing: DT Brandon Williams (foot), TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed), WR Michael Campanaro (hamstring) and CB Jaylen Hill (hamstring). OLB Za'Darius Smith (knee, ankle) returned to practice after missing one game.
Sam Bradford spoke about the left knee injury he sustained against the Saints, saying it was the result of non-contact. He felt it during the game, didn't think it was a major concern and as the game went on it got worse. He woke up last Tuesday morning and his knee "just didn't feel very good."
Chargers signed OL Tyler Marz off the Titans practice squad to their active roster. Tennessee added their 7th round pick, OL Brad Seaton, and LB Tony Washington to their practice squad.
