A six-time All-Star who won back-to-back ABA titles with the Pacers in 1972 and 1973, McGinnis notably referenced childhood idol (and fellow Indiana native) Oscar Robertson while noting, "We all wanted to be like, ‘Big O.'"

The Lakers responded in a statement to being fined $500,000 by the NBA for violating the league's anti-tampering rule. "We respect and accept the NBA's decision regarding this matter," said Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, who was found to have had prohibited contact with Paul George's agent while George was still under contract with the Indiana Pacers. "On behalf of the Los Angeles Lakers, I want to express our regret over this unfortunate incident to both our fans and the NBA." Adam Streisand, a member of the Lakers' outside counsel, noted in the statement, ""The Lakers organization is pleased that this thorough investigation has been brought to a close – and we can assure the fans that the Lakers will be hyper-vigilant going forward to make sure this is never an issue again."
