There is no salary cap hit with New Orleans waiving Emeka Okafor. The veteran had $0 protection that would have increased to $100K guaranteed if he was on the roster past September 21. The $100K in protection originally had a July trigger date but was amended twice this summer to give the Pelicans flexibility leading up to training camp. The likely backup to Anthony Davis is now former top three pick Jahlil Okafor. The former Duke standout has $50K in protection.

Tyrius Walker, who played well for the Knicks in Summer League when he was given playing time, has signed a contract with the club, per his agency. Walker is the 20th player under contract with New York. Teams can carry a max of 20 players in training camp.
