Deron Williams scored a combined 8 points in the first four games of the Eastern Conference Finals, but put up 12 in the first nine minutes of the second quarter in Game 5. It's just the second time this postseason that Williams has reached double-figures in a game.

LeBron James has 17 career postseason triple-doubles, and he's on track for another one in Game 5, finishing the first quarter with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. Cleveland led Boston 43-27 after 1, with the 43 points representing the most in a quarter in Cavs playoff history.

The Boston Celtics haven't led at any point in their three home games against the Cavaliers this series. And Boston has dug itself quite the hole in Game 5. Cavs shot 64 percent in the first half and 54.5 percent beyond the 3-point arc. End of 1st: Cavs 43, Celtics 27.

ESPN Stats and Information

This is the 5th time this postseason Kevin Love has scored at least 10 points in the first quarter, tied with Stephen Curry for most such quarters in 2017 playoffs.

Perhaps the most telling stat of the first 8 minutes of Game 5: LeBron James was 4-for-4 from the field, while the Celtics were 4-for-16.

Fresh off his 17-point, 17-rebound game in Game 4, Kevin Love scored the first 8 points for the Cavs in Game 5, helping Cleveland storm out to a 9-point lead less than four minutes into the game.

Pretty sure LeBron was sick for game three. Speed and bounce look back to par. Meaning very awesome speed and bounce.

Just as it did before Game 4 in Cleveland, the league held a moment of silence before Game 5 in Boston to remember the victims of the bombing in Manchester, England.

Isaiah Thomas led the pregame huddle for the Celtics before Game 5.

ESPN Stats and Information

LeBron James can become 7th player in NBA history to play in 7 straight NBA Finals (previous 6 players were on Celtics during the Bill Russell era)

Knicks president Phil Jackson and GM Steve Mills were among dozens of NBA executives on hand to watch Kentucky guard Malik Monk play today at his agency's pro workout day in New York, per sources. Members of the Knicks organization have been enamored with Monk but it would surprise Draft observers if Monk is available when the Knicks pick at 8. The Knicks are likely considering several options with the No. 8 pick. Included among those options are Monk, French guard Frank Ntilikina, Kentucky's De'Aaron Fox and N.C. State's Dennis Smith Jr., per sources. An earlier post incorrectly stated that he was not there. We regret the error. Many of Excel's draft prospects, including Harry Giles, worked out in front of execs.
