Mets manager Mickey Callaway isn't ready to commit to Jeurys Familia or anyone else as the team's principal closer in 2018. When asked if a club can succeed over 162 games without a dedicated closer, Callaway said, "Yeah, I think it can if you're having pitchers face the guys they're supposed to face."

#WinterMeetings

Report: Mets willing to deal former ace Harvey

The Mets have talked to at least two teams about trading right-hander Matt Harvey, who was 5-7 with a 6.70 ERA in 18 starts last season after returning from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome that cut his 2016 season short.

One key move for the Mets this offseason

The Mets are in search of bullpen help, but it's also not clear that Dominic Smith is the answer at first base. A certain free agent is a potential impact bat at a bargain price

Backman to manage independent league club

The New Britain Bees announced Thursday that former Mets infielder and minor league skipper Wally Backman has been hired as the club's second manager.

Carlos Beltran told me that he would be interested in interviewing for the Yankees manager position. Here's Beltran's quote from our exclusive one-on-one interview after officially announcing his retirement: "I personally think that's a great job; a position with an incredible impact ... it's not every day that there are vacancies available for managing in the Major Leagues. Just think of this, Joe Girardi was there for 10 years. You never know, there are opportunities that God gives us, and if I get an opportunity (to interview) I will not rule it out."

Carlos Beltrán announces he's retiring. Beltrán had a 20-year MLB career, playing for seven different teams, and just won his first World Series ring with the Houston Astros.
