Rose drops portion of defamation suit vs. Dowd

The claim that two companies dropped Pete Rose as an endorser because of a statutory rape allegation has been dropped from his defamation case against attorney John Dowd.

Reds send Farrell to Cubs, outright three

The Cincinnati Reds announced Wednesday that RHP Luke Farrell was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs. Farrell posted a 2.61 ERA in nine relief appearances for Cincinnati this season. The Reds also outrighted RHPs Asher Wojciechowski, Alejandro Chacin and Nick Travieso to Triple-A Louisville. Their 40-man roster now stands at 36.

The departure from Fox is the latest fallout for Rose of an allegation that he had sex more than 40 years ago with an underage girl.

Votto continues his success at Miller Park

Joey Votto, thanks to a solo home run on Wednesday, has an MLB-leading 33 RBIs in the first inning this season. Votto did the damage in Milwaukee, where he raised his career slugging percentage to .628 in 253 career at-bats at Miller Park. That's by far the highest mark for any player with 200 or more at-bats in that ballpark, ahead of Albert Pujols (.592), per Elias Sports Bureau.
