Mills turns in solid AFL start

Cubs right-hander Alec Mills pitched four innings of one-run ball while striking out six during Monday's Arizona Fall League game. The 25-year-old's performance followed up a similar four-inning, one-run outing last week. The former Royals draft pick compiled a 2.57 ERA in seven starts across three different minor league levels this past season.

Arrieta ditches beard again

Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta is barely recognizable now that he's shaved his trademark beard. The offseason trimming has become a tradition for the impending free agent, who went with a smooth face following each of the previous two seasons as well.

Source confirms USA Today report that the Cubs will not exercise option on pitching coach Chris Bosio. As they begin the search for a new one, there are several intriguing candidates including former Rays coach Jim Hickey who worked with Joe Maddon in Tampa Bay. Former Red Sox pitching coach and manager John Farrell is currently unemployed while veteran pitching coach Mike Maddux -- brother of former Cub Greg Maddux -- would be interested, according to a source.

Source: Cubs won't retain pitching coach Bosio

Chris Bosio, who has served as the Chicago Cubs pitching coach for the past six seasons, will not be brought back for the 2018 season, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Christina Kahrl MLB Staff Writer

The Cubs' decision to can pitching coach Chris Bosio is a reminder he wasn't originally a Joe Maddon pick, coming in with Dale Sveum. Bosio should turn up somewhere else quickly, but with Mike Maddux also a coaching free agent, could we see a Maddux return to Wrigley?

Clayton Kershaw's night is over after limiting the Cubs to one run in six innings. Despite a strong performance in a clinching moment, this won't be remembered as Kershaw's signature game thanks to the Game 5 offensive outburst from Los Angeles' lineup.

Bradford Doolittle ESPN Staff Writer

This is a great list from ESPN Stats & Info. There have been six players in MLB history to have a two-homer game on the road at Wrigley Field. The first five were Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Will Clark and Chipper Jones. Now, tonight, you can add the Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez.

Dan Mullen ESPN.com

For all of the talk about the Dodgers' patience at the plate, Enrique Hernandez has seen two pitches and belted both of them for home runs in NLCS Game 5.

All you need to know about NLCS Game 5: Jose Quintana is out of the game before Clayton Kershaw has allowed a hit. It looks like it's going to be a long night for Cubs fans.
