Five trades we'd love to see at the winter meetings

A star slugger to the Cardinals? A coveted young ace to the Dodgers? With baseball's winter meetings just days away, we offer a handful of deals that make sense for all sides.

Here's Theo Epstein's only on the record quote re Shohei Ohtani. Or rather not about him: "Out of respect for the player and the process, I'll let any information come from the agency, from CAA. I think that's the appropriate thing to do. That's our choice."

Watch Tyler Chatwood discuss joining the Cubs and leaving Coors Field.

Theo Epstein would not comment about Shohei Ohtani in any capacity. Not their meeting nor even a timeline. He said out of respect to the player he'll let them release information when they see fit.

According to Tyler Chatwood's agent, the Cubs were consistent in their interest in him from Day 1. Says his camp didn't have to do much selling of their client and negotiation was the way it's "supposed to go." Pretty straightforward.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

The Cubs filled one of their rotation holes with Tyler Chatwood, signing him to a three-year, $38 million deal in what could be a steal if Chatwood stays healthy (he has two Tommy John surgeries in his past). Chatwood ranks sixth among starters in road ERA over the past two seasons (2.57), so escaping Coors for Wrigley should turn him into a sub-4.00 ERA pitcher.

Where will Yu Darvish end up?

The big righty might have struggled in the World Series, but he's still going to get paid this offseason as one of baseball's top free-agent pitchers.
