Tigers snap 5-game skid, beat Baltimore 4-2

Victor Martinez homered for the first time since August, and the Detroit Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.

In the Athletics' first game in Oakland, 50 years ago Tue., Rick Monday homered & Tony LaRussa had a PH single for the A's (the future HoF manager's one hit in 3 MLB ABs that year), but the Orioles won 4-1 behind Dave McNally's two-hitter & solo HRs for Boog Powell, Mark Belanger & Brooks Robinson.

Sanchez loses no-hitter late, Granderson lifts Jays over O's

Aaron Sanchez lost his no-hit bid when Baltimore's Tim Beckham led off the eighth inning with a sharp grounder through the legs of third baseman Josh Donaldson, and Curtis Granderson hit a tiebreaking homer in the ninth to carry the Toronto Blue Jays...

Good win for the Blue Jays. Aaron Sanchez coughed up the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth, but did get a double play to escape a based-loaded jam. Curtis Granderson then homered off Darren O'Day with two outs in the ninth and Roberto Osuna had a 1-2-3 save. The Orioles continue to struggle at the plate, hitting .208 as they drop to 4-8.

Big mistake by the Orioles. After a base hit to right field, Justin Smoak had stopped at third base with one out, but rookie Anthony Santander overthrew the cutoff guy and the ball got away from Chance Sisco and bounced into the dugout, allowing Smoak to score the first run of the game. You have to know your baserunners: No way was Smoak going to run there, so no need to cut loose with a big throw.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

Aaron Sanchez has a no-hitter through seven innings against the Orioles and is sitting on 82 pitches, so the pitch count isn't a huge concern. He's walked four guys and hit a batter, so it hasn't been the prettiest of efforts, but he's showing how he won the AL ERA crown in 2016 before blisters ruined his 2017 season. Oh ... Andrew Cashner also tossed seven scoreless innings. It's 0-0.

O's recall pitching prospect Harvey to aid pen

The Orioles have recalled 2013 first-round pick Hunter Harvey to provide some depth to the bullpen after the team played two extra inning games in three days against the Yankees.

Coley Harvey ESPN Staff Writer

The home run Anthony Santander hit to give Baltimore the lead in the seventh was the sixth homer allowed this season by the Yankees' bullpen. That's the most homers an MLB bullpen has allowed this season.
