College hoops Power Rankings: Will SEC's depth hurt teams in March?

Eleven SEC teams are within striking distance of the tournament, so what's the problem? They're building their résumés and metrics by beating each other, so the committee might value the league differently when selecting the field.

The race for the No. 1 seeds is more wide open now after a few recent upsets. Per BPI, here's where we stand: Virginia 99% Villanova 98% Purdue 71% Michigan State 52% Xavier 32% Duke 29% North Carolina 9% Tennessee 4% Auburn 3% Kansas 2%

Guy: 'We had a lot of lows and a lot of highs tonight' (1:18)

Joe Lunardi Senior Writer, ESPN.com

TONIGHT HEADLINES: Virginia wouldn't lose a No. 1 seed with a loss at Miami, but would certainly drop from No, 1 overall. Kansas, which shouldn't be a No. 2 seed ahead of Texas Tech, would have to drop with a loss at Iowa State. Michigan State could make the Committee look smart with a loss at Minnesota, however unlikely. Maryland must win at Nebraska to get back in the hunt; Huskers must win to stay there. And don't get me started on Oklahoma as a No. 4. Will cover it all tonight from the debut of the #InfinityBracketBunker.

Miami's projected NCAA tournament seed would be 6.1 with a win over Virginia tonight, but 7.5 with a loss, per BPI.

The strength of the Pack. Virginia will rely on its defense to keep them atop the polls. The Cavaliers adjusted defensive efficiency is 80.0, the second-best by any Division-I team in the last 10 seasons. The only team with a better defensive efficiency during that span is the 2014-15 Kentucky team (79.4) that was undefeated before losing to Wisconsin in the Final Four. Stats and info. Virginia Tech outlasts No. 2 UVA in OT win

Kerry Blackshear Jr. scored on a putback with 5.8 seconds left and Virginia Tech spoiled No. 2 Virginia's opportunity to climb to No. 1 with a 61-60 overtime victory Saturday night.

Virginia losing is obviously a surprise in itself, but the way it happened is stunning. Missing free throws and giving up second-chance opportunities to Virginia Tech. Neither happens very often.
