John Calipari on the SEC: "Every game we play is a Super Bowl ... and I think it also helps South Carolina and Florida. And Vandy, Vandy should have won that game. Arkansas should have won that game. Our league had 11 teams in the top 100." (Photo by Nelson Chenault/USA TODAY Sports)

Vanderbilt and Northwestern played as even as possible in the last two minutes of their game on Friday. The biggest difference? The Wildcats got to the line, hit their free throws and came away with the victory.

Vandy's Fisher-Davis on foul: 'Dumb mistake'

Vanderbilt's Matthew Fisher-Davis took the blame for inexplicably fouling Northwestern's Bryant McIntosh with 15 seconds left, saying he thought the Commodores were trailing by 1, not leading.

If you're going to win your first game in your first-ever NCAA tournament, there are few wilder ways to do so than Northwestern's 68-66 victory over Vanderbilt. Chris Collins said immediately afterward that there was no pressure, that "the pressure was getting here," and his team played like it even when things got tight down the stretch -- and even when it needed one of the all-time silly tourney fouls by Matthew-Fisher Davis in the game's decisive closing seconds.

They're doing the Elaine Dance in Evanston tonight: Northwestern is undefeated in its NCAA tournament history after the Wildcats' tense win over Vanderbilt. Bryant McIntosh could not be contained by any Commodore defender, as the junior rang up 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor. Matthew Fisher-Davis' inexplicable foul on McIntosh with 15 seconds remaining and the 'Dores up one sealed the win for the 'Cats.

Northwestern beats Vanderbilt 68-66. The ViewFromVegas is the Wildcats did it as 2-point underdogs and +120 on the money line, so it was an upset here in Vegas despite Northwestern being a No. 8 seed against No. 9 Vanderbilt. The game went over the total of 134.

Vanderbilt should've run the Bryce Drew "The Shot" play.

Northwestern will not only its first ever NCAA Tournet appearance but also its first win. Wildcats survive 68-66 over Vanderbilt after giving up a 15-point second-half lead. Bryant McIntosh was tremendous -- 25 points, four boards, three assists. Total energizer bunny for NU.

Vanderbilt likely isn't worried that so much of its production is coming from outside. Commodores average just 23 points per game in the paint -- the lowest among major conference teams. So far, Vandy has scored 36 of its points from 3-point range, too.

Vanderbilt using the 3-point line to chip away at Northwestern's lead. Vandy is dangerous there -- Commodores average 38 percent on the season, but have made as many as 19 in a single game this season. It's a huge weapon for Bryce Drew's squad.

Vanderbilt coaches huddle by the locker room before heading in to chat with the team. The Wildcats have a seven-point lead at the half and Northwestern, with a hungry fan base that travelled well, has momentum.

An interesting storyline in Northwestern-Vandy game is that NU PG Bryant McIntosh grew up idolizing Vandy coach Bryce Drews, who hit a game-winner in the '98 NCAA Tournament for Valpo. Drews grew up in Indiana and stayed at home to play for his dad at Valpo. McIntosh said that growing up in Indiana, he has seen that clip hundreds of times. How does it feel to know that his idol is now watching *him* on tape and scheming to stop him? "Surreal."

Can Northwestern come through with a victory in its first-ever NCAA tournament game? ESPN's BPI has the Wildcats as slight underdogs in Thursday's 4:30 p.m. ET matchup with the Vanderbilt Commodores in Salt Lake City.

It's fun being Cinderella (Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew, who hit Valpo's miracle shot against Ole Miss in 1998, would know). But it's also fun beating Cinderella. That's what Drew's Vandy team hopes to do -- dash Northwestern (in its first NCAA Tourney appearance) and its dreams.
