Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed played the front-nine in 4-under -- and are 2-down. They're getting Stenson'd.

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

It's not necessarily a day off of work for both Chris Wood and Matthew Fitzpatrick just because they didn't play in the matches today. Both are out working on their games hoping to be brought off the bench Saturday..

Jason Sobel ESPN Senior Writer

Some terrific golf being played in the opening fourballs match this afternoon. The American team of Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed have posted five birdies in their first eight holes -- and find themselves 2-down against Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, the latter of whom nearly aced the eight hole minutes ago.

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

Who seemed the most nervous to start the afternoon matches? Rafa Cabrera-Bello. When I shook his hand it slipped my grip because it was so cold and sweaty. He seems to be pretty comfortable now!!

Bob Harig @BobHarig

Stenson just nearly aced the 8th hole. Inches away. Reed and Spieth will have long birdie putts to keep from going 2-down.

For all his struggles in Ryder Cups, Phil Mickelson on Friday tied Lee Trevino for the fourth-most points won in U.S. history with 20. Billy Casper holds the record with 23 1/2, followed by Arnold Palmer with 23 and Lanny Wadkins with 21 1/2. Mickelson's overall record is now 17-19-6.

Europe now leads three of the four afternoon fourballs matches at the Ryder Cup, just in case you were wondering where all that morning momentum has gone.

For the first time all day, the Spieth/Reed team trails. Rose/Stenson 1-up thru 7.

Spoke to former winner of the PGA Championship Shaun Micheel. He said he was playing an event nearby and had "never played well enough to be on a Ryder Cup team" so he wanted to see what it was like. He couldn't believe the electric atmosphere and the sheer amount of people.

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

Finally heard someone heckle Danny Willett as he readied to tee off at the par 3 4th hole. The heckler was dealt with quickly and severely... by a member of Team USA who didn't want to be named. I asked why he went over and to the heckler. He replied, "Because that ain't right."

Even former U.S. captain Hal Sutton stops in the merchandise tent at Hazeltine National Golf Club to pick up a few things at the Ryder Cup.

Bob Harig ESPN Senior Writer

Phil Mickelson admitted he felt a good bit of pressure Friday at the Ryder Cup. "Given the buildup over the last couple years, the criticism, the comments, what have you; the pressure was certainly as great or greater than I've ever felt,'' he said after he and Rickie Fowler won 1-up over Rory McIlroy and Andy Sullivan. "I could have copped out and asked to sit, that would have been a total weak move, and I wanted to get out there.'' Mickelson apologized on Thursday for comments he made earlier about former U.S. captain Hal Sutton.

Jason Sobel @JasonSobelESPN

"Dustin Johnson is way left... has 246 to the hole... smooths a little iron and finds the middle of the green..."

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

American golf fans are proving Danny Willett's brother Pete to be uninformed. No heckling of the Englishman at all as he walks the fairways for the first time this Ryder Cup. Also don't need to heckle a guy who's twosome is 2 down thru 3 holes.

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

Brooks Koepka shows off his length on the par 5 3rd hole hitting it in two... on the scorecard it's listed at 633 yards and the second shot is UPHILL!!!

Jason Sobel ESPN Senior Writer

Among the sporting luminaries at the Ryder Cup today: Michael Phelps, Adrian Peterson and this guy -- Michael Jordan, who has served as a de facto vice captain for the U.S. team in previous years.

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

FORE RIGHT!! Ryder Cup 'Merica!

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

Danny Willett misses birdie chance on the second hole but Brandt Snedeker doesn't miss. That's two in a row for Sneds but this one gives he and Koepka a 1 up lead over Willett and Kaymer

Kevin Maguire Golf

"Confidence breeds momentum ... but we weren't shocked" by a 4-0 start in the Friday morning foursomes at the 41st Ryder Cup -- Zach Johnson, Team USA
