Fantasy Baseball Closer Chart (last updated April 16)

The chart below breaks down all 30 major-league teams' bullpens in terms of relievers' proximity to the closer role, not their overall fantasy value. Teams are broken down by division.

"CLOSER" is either that team's officially designated closer, or the pitcher most likely to get the team's next save chance. "NEXT IN LINE" is the pitcher next-most likely to take over if something happens to the closer, or the one who might get any save chances on the closer's nights off. "NOTES" beneath each division's chart provide detail on teams' closer situations that might have an unusual wrinkle, like an injury to the typical closer requiring a short term fill-in, or a committee situation.

NOTES: The Orioles hinted at a closer-by-committee during the preseason, but Brad Brach has been used as the team's primary finisher thus far. ... The Red Sox plan to mix and match their setup men, with Matt Barnes, Carson Smith and Joe Kelly the most logical fill-ins should Craig Kimbrel get injured.

NOTES: Nate Jones picked up a save for the White Sox on April 11, and could be sneaking up on Joakim Soria for the closer's job.

NOTES: The Astros have been going full mix-and-match with their bullpen, with Ken Giles, Chris Devenski and Brad Peacock all notching saves so far. GIles' recent usage suggests the team has no official "closer." ... Keynan Middleton appears to have secured the Angels' closer job, with Cam Bedrosian and Blake Wood most commonly setting him up.

NOTES: While Peter Moylan and Dan Winkler have been serving as the Braves' primary setup men, A.J. Minter is the most logical option to step in at closer should Arodys Vizcaino continue to struggle. ... Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said he won't have a set closer, but Hector Neris seems likely to get the majority of opportunities.

NOTES: Josh Hader has been the Brewers' most effective reliever and recorded a two-inning save on April 14, but the team has also been giving Matt Albers and Jacob Barnes looks in the ninth. ... Greg Holland was signed to be the Cardinals' closer this season, but with him still working up to full speed, Bud Norris has been getting some save chances.

NOTES: Kenley Jansen's velocity was down through the season's first week, which bears watching.
