FaZe Clan and Fnatic won their upper-bracket matches Thursday to advance directly to the semifinals of Intel Extreme Masters Chicago.
Astralis, Team Liquid, Team LDLC.com and mousesports all earned places in the quarterfinals of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament.
The event started with two eight-team groups that each placed three representatives in the single-elimination playoffs. The quarterfinals and semifinals -- taking place Friday and Saturday, respectively -- are each best-of-three, while the grand final on Sunday is best-of-five.
In the Group A upper-bracket deciding match, FaZe topped Astralis 2-0. After a 16-7 win on Mirage, FaZe snuck past Astralis 19-15 on Inferno.
Fnatic won the Group B upper-bracket finale 2-1 against Liquid. Fnatic opened with a 16-12 victory on Mirage, but Liquid responded with a 16-12 decision on Inferno. In the decisive showdown on Overpass, Fnatic won 16-7.
As the second-place team from Group A, Astralis will oppose mousesports in the quarterfinals, with the winner earning a crack at Fnatic. Mousesports got past Luminosity Gaming 2-0, winning 16-13 on Cache and 16-5 on Mirage.
Earlier Thursday, mousesports advanced with a 2-0 win over BIG, and Luminosity swept eUnited 2-0. Mousesports posted a pair of 16-10 wins, on Dust2 and Train. Luminosity won 16-10 on Mirage and 16-9 on Train.
LDLC.com grabbed third place from Group A by rallying for a 2-1 decision over NRG Esports. NRG opened with a 19-17 win on Nuke, but LDLC.com rebounded with a 16-11 victory on Overpass and a 16-8 win on Train.
LDLC.com will take on Liquid in the quarterfinals, with the winner moving on to meet FaZe.
