Kirby Smart didn't say he was against or in favor of the new early signing period but he did say that he thinks an early signing period could put a lot more pressure on prospects to sign earlier than they are comfortable with. Rival coaches could also pressure prospects not to sign. Smart worries about prospects making these major decisions during high school finals and playoff games.

Georgia defensive lineman Trent Thompson, who missed spring football and classes with a medical issue and a shoulder injury is on track to get back to both soon, coach Kirby Smart said. "He's done a great job rehabbing his shoulder," Smart said. Thompson, who was one of the Bulldogs's best defensive players last season, will be in summer school as well.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart says DL Trenton Thompson, who withdrew from spring semester because of a "significant" medical issue is not currently taking classes (like many of his teammates right now) but is expected to be back for summer school in June. Smart said that he's also rehabbing his shoulder well.

Quarterback Ben Bryant had been committed to Wisconsin since December, but says the Badgers coaches told him he was no longer a fit after Bryant tweeted that he had received an offer from Georgia. "The night before this was tweeted out, I called (Wisconsin) Coach Budmayr to give him heads up that I was given the offer and left a message on his voicemail. I made it clear I was 100 percent committed to the Badgers," Bryant said in a statement. "The next morning we spoke on the phone and I was informed that I was no longer a good fit for Wisconsin and I was encouraged to continue looking for a fit." Wisconsin coaches are not allowed to comment publicly about unsigned recruits, so the staff will not be able to comment on what happened.
