Way-too-early 2018 rankings: Scarbrough, Harris

Alabama's Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris both rank high among 2018 NFL running back prospects. Seven of the top-10 players at the position hail from the SEC.

Alabama lost a commitment from ESPN 300 running back Dameon Pierce on Thursday. That decommitment brings the Alabama commitment total down to two prospects for the 2018 class with Xavier Williams and Jordan Davis. This is the first time since ESPN started its class rankings in the spring that Alabama is outside the top 11 of the rankings as the Tide aren't even in the top 25 for 2018.

Saban backs proposed redshirt rule tweak

Nick Saban says he fully supports a rule proposal that would allow players to play in up to four games in a season without losing their redshirt status.

Edward Aschoff ESPN Staff Writer

Nick Saban has said before that he'd be against an early signing period and now that it's coming he thinks it will accelerate the recruiting process and calendar, and he isn't sure if that's good for the game. Saban notes that speeding up any sort of major decisions like this might not be advantageous in the end for either side

Edward Aschoff ESPN Staff Writer

Nick Saban says he "absolutely would be in favor" of the proposed redshirt freshman rule that would allow freshmen to play up to four games without losing that year of eligibility. He says it would help the development of young players. Saban says it would be better for players if they are allowed to play a little instead of missing an entire season to save eligibility. He's not sure if he'd be for or against getting rid of redshirts all together and giving guys five years to play

Edward Aschoff ESPN Staff Writer

Nick Saban says that like every year, he doesn't think he has an elite team heading into the summer. He described his team as being "probably adequate" right now. Saban says there's still a lot of development that needs to take place with Alabama's football team over the summer and fall camp.
