Sacramento State announced Utah offensive coordinator Troy Taylor has been hired as the program's head coach. Taylor spent the last two seasons in Salt Lake City following a year as the OC at Eastern Washington. Taylor is from the Sacramento area, where he famously helped turn Folsom High School into one of the premiere prep football teams in the country.

Indiana adds quarterback Jack Tuttle, a transfer from Utah. Tuttle was a decorated recruit from Southern California who didn't suit up for Utah this season. His eligibility situation is still to be determined and he could play next fall. His father, Jay, was a kicker for Indiana. "He is extremely talented and brings a huge skillset to our quarterback room," Hoosiers coach Tom Allen said in a news release. "We look forward to his arrival on campus next semester and his development as a Hoosier."

New Utah State coach Gary Andersen is bringing Justin Ena with him from Utah as the Aggies' new defensive coordinator. Ena serves as Utah's linebackers coach and co-special teams coordinator. He played at BYU and also coached at Southern Utah and Weber State.

Whittingham irked by Pac-12 refs: 'I'm used to it'

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham was still fuming after Friday's 10-3 loss in the Pac-12 title game, with much of his ire directed at a disputed non-call on the Utes' final offensive play of the game.

Joel Anderson ESPN

Utah receiver Britain Covey, the Utes' leading receiver, may have suffered a "severe knee injury" on the opening kickoff of the second half, says head coach Kyle Whittingham. "It doesn't look good for him," Whittingham says in the postgame press conference.

It figures that in a game featuring the PAC-12's two best defenses, the only touchdown — so far — wouldn't come on offense. Washington cornerback Byron Murphy has thrust himself way into the lead for the game's MVP with that pick six, narrowly edging out Utah kicker Matt Gay.

Washington might not need to do too much more offensively to clinch its first Rose Bowl berth in 17 years. The Huskies have continued their stranglehold on Utah's offense in the PAC-12 Championship Game, so far having held the Utes scoreless for five consecutive quarters dating back to their first game on Sept. 15. Utah also finished the first half with 61 yards of offense, its worst performance since totaling only 39 against Colorado on Nov. 25, 2011.

Utah's losses of starting quarterback Tyler Huntley and running back Zack Moss in the past month are finally starting to show up against an elite defense like Washington's. The Utes have gone 3-and-out on their first four offensive possessions, totaling only 31 yards of offense for an average of 2.4 yards per play.

For those watching along at home, that was the first scoreless first quarter in the 8-year history of the Pac-12 Championship Game. Washington's opening drive, at 6 minutes and 40 seconds, was also the longest without points in the history of the game. A truly historic evening here in Santa Clara.

Guidry picks off Browning (0:31)

Already the winningest quarterback in Pac-12 history, Washington's Jake Browning moved past USC's Carson Palmer into fifth place in career passing yards on the game's first possession. Next up is Cal's Jared Goff, who finished his career with 12,200 yards.
