Inside the wild, controversial Clemson-Texas A&M finish

There was a questionable goal-line fumble. There was an angry coach. There was a circus catch for a TD, followed by a failed two-point conversion. Here's how it went down.

No. 2 Clemson outlasts Texas A&M 28-26

Kelly Bryant threw for 205 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score to help No. 2 Clemson escape with a 28-26 victory over Kellen Mond and Texas A&M on Saturday night.

That win could mean the difference for Clemson on Selection Day. A road win against an extremely talented SEC West team will do wonders to separate Clemson from other Power 5 conference champs if Clemson continues to win and gets into a resume battle with another team that doesn't have a nonconference win of that caliber. It's especially important considering how weak the rest of the ACC has looked early — and how South Carolina lost today.

Clemson escapes College Station with a 28-26 win over Texas A&M. The No. 2 Tigers move to 2-0 but had a fight on their hands from Jimbo Fisher's new squad. The Aggies acquitted themselves well and quarterback Kellen Mond kept them in the ballgame by making big play after big play. The Clemson defensive line, spearheaded by Austin Bryant who chased after Mond all night long, eventually prevailed. Kelly Bryant, after trading series with Trevor Lawrence at quarterback, played the entire fourth quarter for Clemson and it will be interesting to see how that situation continues to unfold for the Tigers.

One last chance for Texas A&M as the Aggies take over at the Clemson 49 with 1:12 left, trailing the Tigers by eight points. Can Kellen Mond and Co. come up with one more scoring drive to send the game to overtime?

Sam Khan Jr. ESPN Staff Writer

Texas A&M threatened to score and either tie or narrow Clemson's lead to two points but receiver Quartney Davis fumbled the ball out of bounds while diving for the end zone. Call stood after official review and Clemson has the ball, needing a first down to end this.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

It should be noted that the last two games Jimbo Fisher faced Clemson before tonight, his Florida State team played the Tigers close into the fourth quarter before ultimately losing. He's taking advantage of a young Clemson secondary that is the weak link on the defense.
