Teams feeling the excitement since the end of bowl season

Every team is optimistic this time of year, but thanks to late recruiting pushes, intriguing coaching hires and some key transfers, these five teams should really be ready to go this spring.

Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk (5-foot-10, 201 pounds) runs an unofficial 4.46 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. And that's a good time for a receiver who will work in the slot. Kirk's route running shows up on the tape in the quick passing game and he can attack the intermediate cuts in the middle of the field.

Texas A&M lost a commit in its 2019 class late Tuesday night when ESPN Jr. 300 QB Grant Gunnell (Houston, TX/St. Pius X) announced he is decommitting from the Aggies. Gunnell, who is 6-6, 207 and the No. 2-ranked pocket passer in the nation, has an impressive offer list. He said in his announcement on Twitter that the coaching change factored into his decision but the Aggies are still "very much" in play.

Arkansas gets a big post-signing day pickup in the form of junior college defensive end Dorian Gerald. The No. 4 overall prospect in the ESPN JC 50 and the nation's top-ranked juco defensive end, Gerald was down to a final two of Arkansas and Texas A&M. New Razorbacks defensive coordinator John Chavis will certainly welcome Gerald's talents in the Hogs' front seven.

Top teams and top prospects in 2019 recruiting

The Class of 2018 was so yesterday, and recruiting never stops. With attention on 2019, top classes such as Texas A&M's are taking shape and the biggest recruiting battles have already begun.

Texas A&M adds another member to its signing class in the form of four-star athlete Vernon Jackson (Boling, TX). Jackson had long been committed to Alabama but in the hours leading up to signing day, it became apparent that Jackson wouldn't sign with the Crimson Tide. Instead, he becomes another key addition to Jimbo Fisher's first class in College Station.

College football's best recruiters of 2018

With Georgia and Ohio State ranked 1-2 in the class rankings, it's no surprise to find a couple of their coaches on this list. Who else made the cut?

Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher discusses the importance of recruiting nationally in order to compete for SEC championships.

In 2017, only 19 of the top 50 prospects in Texas and only five of the top 20 prospects stayed in state. This year 31 of the top 50 stayed in state. Texas (16) and Texas A&M (7) combined for 23 signees in the state's top 50 this year after combining for just 10 of the top 50 last year.

By adding four last-minute ESPN 300 prospects to the class on signing day, Texas A&M saw its class surge from 24th at the start of the morning to 16th at the end of the day's action. That's a solid jump for Jimbo Fisher's class, which needed a lot of difference makers coming into the week.

ESPN 300 wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has committed to Alabama. Waddle, the No. 77 ranked prospect, chose the Tide over Texas A&M, FSU and TCU among others.

The signing of ESPN 300 QB James Foster (the fifth-ranked dual threat quarterback in the nation), gives Texas A&M a top-10 QB recruit for the fifth time in the last six classes. Only in 2016 did the Aggies fail to sign a top 10-ranked QB.
