Stanford officially announces a game against Rice in Australia to open the 2017 season. The game will be Aug. 26 (Aug. 27 in Australia) and will replace the Cardinal's originally scheduled road game at Rice on Sept. 2. Stanford will now have a longer time to prepare for its Sept. 9 showdown at USC.

Rice is hiring Nebraska defensive backs coach Brian Stewart as defensive coordinator, sources tell colleague Sam Khan Jr. and me. Stewart has been defensive coordinator at Maryland, Houston and the Dallas Cowboys. He spent the past two seasons at Nebraska.


McCaffrey, No. 24 Stanford beat Rice 41-17

Christian McCaffrey, in possibly his final home game, rushed for 204 yards and scored two touchdowns as No. 24 Stanford rolled to a 41-17 nonconference victory over Rice on Saturday night.
