Kirk Ferentz passes Fry, Iowa rolls past NIU 33-7

Nate Stanley threw for 108 yards and a touchdown, coach Kirk Ferentz passed mentor Hayden Fry as Iowa's all-time leader in wins and the Hawkeyes rolled past Northern Illinois 33-7 on Saturday.

Perfectly appropriate for Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz to pass Hayden Fry as the Hawkeyes' all-time win leader with a workmanlike, 33-6 defeat of Northern Illinois. Iowa awoke at halftime to score 30 straight in the second half, running for 209 yards to earn Ferentz his 144th win at the open of his 20th season.

Mitch Sherman ESPN Staff Writer

Iowa's projected starter at right tackle, Tristan Wirfs, will serve a one-game suspension after his arrest for drunken driving last weekend. Also suspended Sept. 1 against Northern Illinois is defensive tackle Brady Reiff, who mistook a police car for an Uber one week earlier in Iowa City and was cited for public intoxication. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz had this to say about the two incidents:
