In going 12th overall to the Texans Thursday night, Clemson's Deshaun Watson became the sixth national championship-winning quarterback since 2006 to be drafted in the first round.

Sarah Barshop ESPN Staff Writer

Deshaun Watson called the moment he was drafted even better than the moment he won the national championship with Clemson because he finally is an NFL player.

Sarah Barshop ESPN Staff Writer

Deshaun Watson said he knew it was a possibility to go to Houston and that he is excited to play with fellow Clemson alum DeAndre Hopkins.

Sarah Barshop ESPN Staff Writer

Rick Smith said the Texans looked at Deshaun Watson and saw, "he's a winner. He's got that winning gene." He also praised his leadership.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Deshaun Watson has some areas of his game that need to develop, but his leadership and toughness are key to the position. That sells in an NFL locker room. And the Texans can cater to his strengths this season by adjusting the game plan. Think more movement passes, QB designed runs and play action to put him in productive situations.

Todd McShay ESPN Senior Writer

You don't move up 13 spots to take Deshaun Watson unless you have unbelievable conviction that he can be your guy for a long time. The Texans will give Watson every opportunity to compete for the starting job as a rookie. This is an awesome challenge for coach Bill O'Brien.

Why Deshaun Watson already has the respect of NFL vets

You want toughness? Deshaun Watson showed he has plenty at Clemson, taking hit after hit and popping right back up. That will immediately endear him to the veterans in Houston's locker room.

Texans trade up, take QB Watson at No. 12

The Texans selected Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson with the 12th pick in Thursday's NFL draft after a trade with the Browns.

Dan Graziano ESPN Staff Writer

Because I know you're thinking it: Combine the two trades, and the Texans traded the Browns two first-round picks, a second-round pick, a sixth-round pick and Brock Osweiler for DeShaun Watson and a fourth-round pick.

Todd McShay ESPN Senior Writer

Houston trades up from No. 25 to No. 12. I was told Texans coach Bill O'Brien fell in love with QB Deshaun Watson during pre-draft workouts and interviews.

Pat McManamon ESPN Staff Writer

Two other players to consider at 12, both of them highly regarded: Safety Malik Hooker of Ohio State and tight end O.J. Howard of Alabama. One of them could be good enough to force the Browns off Deshaun Watson.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Mike Williams' ability to make plays on contested throws is all over the tape. Great body control with the 4.5 speed to stack on top of defensive backs. Expect Philip Rivers to look up Williams as a top target inside of the 20-yard line.

Todd McShay ESPN Senior Writer

I saw a large Chargers contingent at Clemson's pro day in March. That was the day WR Mike Williams ran in the low 4.5s, helping to squash concerns about his speed.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

With the Chargers taking another receiver off the board, in Mike Williams, the Rams' hope is that someone like John Ross or Evan Engram can slip. Thirty spots to go, so, doesn't seem likely. Chargers have a nice offense if Keenan Allen stays healthy.

Eric D. Williams ESPN Staff Writer

The Los Angeles Chargers select WR Mike Williams at No. 7 in this year's draft, add another playmaker for Philip Rivers.

Pat McManamon ESPN Staff Writer

Chicago's selection of Mitchell Trubisky second overall brings Deshaun Watson into play at the 12th pick for the Browns. Was told by one league insider leading up to the draft that Watson best fits what Hue Jackson likes to do offensively.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

The Jaguars are now on the clock. Sticking with my prediction of RB Leonard Fournette. Lot of talk over the past week that there is heavy interest in Deshaun Watson. Wouldn't be surprised if they traded back, either.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

30 minutes until the draft begins. Who will the Jaguars take with the fourth pick: DeShaun Watson, Leonard Fournette, Jonathan Allen, Solomon Thomas? Allen and Thomas would fill a need but the Jaguars have done a lot of work on defense the past two years. They need a playmaker on offense. Still sticking with my prediction of Fournette.

Dabo Swinney has made Clemson into a pro factory. Deshaun Watson and Mike Williams are projected to be first-round picks on Thursday.

Swinney knew Watson was special since 9th grade (1:42)

National championship-winning quarterbacks have heard their name called early in the draft in the last 25 years. Deshaun Watson hopes to follow the trend when the first round kicks off on Thursday.

Who is the ACC's next Mike Williams?

Wide receiver Deon Cain might be able to fill big shoes at Clemson, but will he have a quarterback that can deliver?
