2017 SEC Football Awards announced (2:30)

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

The SEC awards have a distinctly Georgia feel to them this year. Kirby Smart, who took the Bulldogs to the playoff in his second season leading the program, takes home SEC Coach of the Year. Georgia LB Roquan Smith and Auburn RB Kerryon Johnson win Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year honors, respectively. And in maybe the easiest call of all, Georgia QB Jake Fromm gets the nod as Freshman of the Year in the conference.

Nick Saban is 39-4 against SEC teams over the last five years, and two of those four losses were to Gus Malzahn, who just agreed to a seven-year, $49 million deal to remain at Auburn. Malzahn is the only active head coach currently still coaching in the SEC that has beaten Saban.

Chris Low ESPN Senior Staff Writer

Gus Malzahn has a new seven-year, $49 million deal at Auburn and told ESPN on Monday the Tigers' best days are ahead of them. "Our program is more stable than it's been in any of the eight years I've been here before," said Malzahn, who was wooed in recent days by Arkansas with a lucrative deal. "We've got talented players. We've got a very good staff, and it is set up for us to win championships. That's what is exciting for me."
