Five years after hiring offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich from a Division II program in Pennsylvania, Mike Gundy wouldn't rule out the possibility of filling his defensive coordinator vacancy with a candidate from a lower level again: "Oh, I've looked at every level. I mean, why not? Still 11 people on the field, right? I mean, I don't have a problem with that. There's a lot of damn good coaches, coaching at lower levels that have never gotten a chance. I'm not going to say I'm going to do it, but why would I want to say that a guy that coaches at a smaller school can't do as well as a guy coaching at a larger school?" Gundy admitted the unprecedented move to hire a play-caller out of Division II came with criticism: "At the time that I did it, everybody thought I was a moron, including people that are on this campus. I got beat up, man. My assistant here, she handles all my e-mail. She told me never to do that again, because she can't all the negative email I got the first three months I got after hiring him. … But it worked out pretty good, (Yurcich) is one of the, what, top five or 10 coordinators in the country. What it proved is this: there are a lot of damn good football coaches that just haven't had the chance."

Mike Gundy, on bringing in former Montana and Colorado School of Mines coach Bob Stitt as an offensive analyst to Oklahoma State: "He was doing basketball on grass before we were doing basketball on grass," Gundy said. "He's perfect for us." Despite having never coached in the FBS, Stitt has long been regarded for his innovative offensive mind. His "fly-sweep-touch base" invention, for example, became a staple in Dana Holgorsen's offense at West Virginia. Said Gundy: "I plan on putting (Stitt) in there with (offensive coordinator Mike) Yurcich to look at what we're doing and telling us what the hell we're doing wrong and give us some good ideas."

Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph pulled out of participating in the Senior Bowl because of an injured foot. Rudolph, ranked as the No. 5 QB in the class of 2018 by ESPN's Todd McShay and Mel Kiper, was wearing a boot on his left foot and called the injury a "mid-foot sprain." Rudolph expects to be fine for the NFL scouting combine next month and plans to fully participate in drills. He's doing interviews with teams this week and taking part in the QB room with the South team under Texans coach Bill O'Brien and QB coach Sean Ryan.

Wearing a boot on his left foot, former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph said on Tuesday in Mobile, Alabama, that he expects to be fine for the NFL combine next month and plans to fully participate in drills. He called his injury a "mid-foot sprain," and will be in the boot another week. Rudolph, the No. 5-ranked QB in the Class of 2018 by both Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr., isn't participating in on-field workouts at the Senior Bowl but is doing interviews with NFL teams and taking part in classroom sessions with the South team, which is coached by the Texans.

As others have noted, don't be surprised if former Notre Dame defensive coordinator and current Oklahoma State analyst Brian VanGorder is elevated to a spot on the staff to fill the Cowboys' 10th slot on the coaching staff.

Oklahoma State's ongoing search for a defensive coordinator has included talks with six candidates, including Tulane defensive coordinator Jack Curtis, South Carolina assistant head coach Lance Thompson, Duke defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and Troy defensive coordinator Vic Koenning, according to sources. Two additional candidates are in play, as well, including a name from the FCS.

Surprising news out of Stillwater as Oklahoma State announces defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer is out. "I'm very appreciative for the 10 years of loyal service that Glenn Spencer gave to Oklahoma State," coach Mike Gundy said in a prepared statement.
