Lanning completed 2 of 3 passes for 25 yards and carried the ball nine times for 35 yards in Iowa State's 38-31 win. He also threw a key block that allowed David Montgomery to spring loose for a 46-yard reception off a screen play, in which Montgomery reversed field.
On defense, Lanning had eight tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
"It was fun," Lanning said. "Coming into an atmosphere like this, you can't ask for anything better, especially playing both ways. ... I can't say enough about my teammates and what they did to help me out. It was a lot of stuff going on for me. I didn't have my best game defensively, but we got the win."
Lanning played quarterback last season before transitioning to inside linebacker during the offseason after Park won the job.
Entering Saturday's game, he was second in the Big 12 with 46 tackles.
