SOURCE: Texas A&M is hiring Minnesota defensive backs coach Mo Linguist for the same position. TexAgs first reported the move. Linguist is a Dallas native who played at Baylor and has moved up the ranks quickly. Excellent recruiter who was at Mississippi State in 2016. Nice addition by Jimbo Fisher and Mike Elko.

Dabo Swinney told ESPN back in September that he built the Clemson program from the inside out, which should be on display next season more than ever with Christian Wilkins, Austin Bryant and Clelin Ferrell all returning to school to join Dexter Lawrence on the Tigers' defensive line. All four are projected as NFL first-round selections, and there are a couple of younger players on the roster that could push that total to seven or more future pros on next season's Clemson defensive line.

Arizona officially announced Kevin Sumlin as its next head coach. “I am humbled and honored to join the Arizona Family,” Sumlin said in a statement. “With a strong foundation already in place, we will work quickly to assemble an elite coaching staff and immediately begin the work of establishing our culture, recruiting future Wildcats, and connecting with Wildcats past and present. We will win championships.

A source confirmed that Chris Partridge signed a new contract with Michigan on Saturday. Partridge had been offered a job with Alabama and a few other opportunities, but ultimately chose to stay with Michigan.

As first reported by SI's Bruce Feldman, a source confirms that former Texas A&M OC Noel Mazzone will follow Sumlin to Arizona in the same capacity. In Mazzone's first year with the Aggies in 2016, A&M was one of a handful of FBS team to average over 200 rushing and passing yards per game, while gaining 467.1 total yards per game. Those numbers dropped in 2017, as A&M averaged just 406.8 YPG and were held under 100 yards rushing five times.

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

Elevating co-offensive coordinator/receivers coach Mike Locksley to the primary OC makes a lot of sense with Brian Daboll heading back to the NFL, but it would buck a trend under Nick Saban at Alabama of not promoting from within. Jim McElwain, Doug Nussmeier, Lane Kiffin and Daboll were all outside hires. The lone exception was Steve Sarkisian, who lasted all of one game after being promoted from analyst to OC when Kiffin left.

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

Brian Daboll is heading back to the NFL with the Buffalo Bills after just one season as offensive coordinator at Alabama. That means Nick Saban will be looking for his fourth OC in less than 14 months (Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian).

The pairing of coach Kevin Sumlin and quarterback Khalil Tate should produce some offensive fireworks in Arizona.

Edward Aschoff ESPN Staff Writer

Source close to Kevin Sumlin said he's "fired up" about his new opportunity to coach at Arizona. One of Sumlin's first orders of business will be developing QB Khalil Tate into more of a passer. You have to imagine that he's excited to work with a QB who was second in the Pac-12 with 1,411 rushing yards and averaged 9.2 YPC. Improving on his 144.6 passing YPG and getting a better TD-INT number (14-9) will push him toward the top of the conference.

Kyle Bonagura ESPN Staff Writer

With Kevin Sumlin headed to Arizona, it will only open up more scrutiny for Arizona State's decision to hire Herm Edwards. Many viewed Sumlin as a good fit at ASU and if he outperforms Edwards -- which seems likely -- it will be a major source of frustration for ASU fans who wanted Sumlin in the first place.

SOURCES: Arizona is hiring former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin as its next head coach. An official announcement is expected shortly. Sports Illustrated first reported the hire. Cal offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin also interviewed for the position, along with Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo.

Sam Khan Jr. ESPN Staff Writer

Kevin Sumlin to Arizona is a solid fit. The coach has familiarity recruiting the area (landed several of the state's top prospects, including Christian Kirk while at Texas A&M) and his offensive style paired with QB Khalil Tate's skills should provide for some real fireworks.

He had five tackles in six games last season.

I can confirm Pitt is hiring Randy Bates as defensive coordinator, as first reported by Yahoo! earlier today. Bates coached linebackers at Northwestern, which could move recently hired Tim McGarigle into that role. But I'm told Pat Fitzgerald will take his time sorting out the roles on defense.
