Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports, "Hendry's name is growing stronger as a possible choice by Derek Jeter to run the Marlins."
Baseball owners last week officially approved the sale of the Marlins to a group headed by Jeter and Bruce Sherman. Jeter reportedly has been cleaning house in the front office in order to bring in his own people, with Hendry and Gary Denbo, a vice president of player development for the Yankees and a good friend of Jeter, "among the names mentioned most often," writes Tim Healey of the Sun Sentinel.
Jeter reportedly is interested in bringing in a more traditional head of baseball operations, and that could favor Hendry, who served as GM of the Cubs from 2002 until he was fired in August 2011. The Cubs won division titles in 2003, 2007 and 2008.
